Tens of thousands of Muslim worshipers performed the Friday prayer at the Aqsa Mosque, amid tight Israeli security measures.
According to local sources, scores of Israeli policemen and border guards were deployed around the Aqsa Mosque and in the Old City of Jerusalem as about 50,000 Palestinians flocked to the Islamic holy site to listen to the khutba (sermon) and perform the weekly prayer.
In his Friday khutba, Sheikh Mohamed Hussein highlighted the issue of the prisoners in Israeli jails and their exposure to different forms of torture and suffering.
Sheikh Hussein called for closing ranks and pooling the efforts to liberate the prisoners and support the families of martyrs. He also condemned the daily desecration of the Aqsa Mosque by Jewish settlers and Israel’s Judaization activities in al-Buraq wall area.
