Iraqi Forces Liberate Airbase Near Mosul From ISIS

Iraqi troops liberated Qayyarah airbase some 60 miles south of Mosul in the northern Nineveh governorate from ISIS militants, the governor Nofal Hammadi said Saturday, as quoted by local media.

Iraqi forces are carrying out operations in the Nineveh governorate in preparation for an assault on Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city that has been under ISIS control since 2014.

ISIS overran parts of Syria and Iraq in 2014 amid the ongoing war in Syria.
